Mohalla Restaurant has recently introduced a new menu propelling itself into a next-generation perspective of Indian street food. It was incepted in 2018 in Dubai but has grown its presence in Riyadh, KSA in 2022.
‘Mohalla’ meaning community is located in the Dubai Design District, which is the hub of design, art, and fashion that welcomes innovation with arms wide open. Its rustic furniture reflects the charm of community seating and its new menu introduces dishes that are delectable and tastefully presented.
The Brand Chef Adwait Anantwar has boldly curated a holistic menu, choosing flavor profiles from cuisines and cultures across the Indian subcontinent. One of the highlights of the concept is that it breaks perceptions of Indian food being heavy. So, unlike the other restaurants, the food is not oily or greasy, hence lighter on the stomach. The portion sizes are reasonable and the pricing of the menu is super approachable, allowing diners to try more from the menu.
What we tried was an eclectic mix of Indian favourite dishes with interesting tweaks. We had Papadi Chaat topped with avocado, Spring Rolls stuffed with spinach, chilli and cheese and the crispy Aloo Tikki with mouthwatering Chholey. The famous Dal Pakwaan had the perfect blend of spices and I give it an absolute 10 on 10. Tomato Chaat topped with peanut and tamarind sauce was a unique offering but delightfully delicious. We rounded off the meal with Tandoori Roti and Crispy Cheese Balls dipped in Spinach Sauce, which was yummy!
The beautiful walls with community mural and the rustic furniture add to the lovely vibes of the restaurant. Mohalla has outdoor seating as well, so making the best of Dubai’s amazing winter with Mohalla’s delicious food is a fabulous idea. The interestly placed tube well and an old motorbike brush up memories of Indian neighbourhoods.
Mohalla is available on food delivery platforms like Deliveroo and Talabat, as the same menu will be served there with seasonal offers. One can also take advantage of ordering from the comfort of home.
