A scintillating tribute concert, titled ‘Swaralaya – Symphony on Strings’, honouring the legendary musician, Pandit Shivkumar Sharma, is set to take place at the Emirates Theatre in Dubai on May 7th Sunday 2023. The concert, starting at 7:30 PM, will feature the young Santoor Maestro Rahul Sharma, who will pay homage to the legacy of his father by playing his iconic instrument.

Pandit Shivkumar Sharma was a legendary musician, who dedicated his life to promoting the Santoor, a classical instrument from Kashmir. His untiring efforts made the Santoor an exotic instrument in the last century. Unfortunately, he passed away in May 2022, leaving behind a rich legacy in the hands of his brilliant son, Rahul Sharma.

Commenting on the concert, the organizer Jyoti Easwaran, said, “We are privileged to host this heartfelt tribute to one of the most influential and distinguished figures in Indian music. Exactly one year since the day of tragic passing, we aim to honour the treasured memory of Pandit Shivkumar Sharma and keep his memory alive in the hearts of music lovers.”

“We promise a magical evening of pure Indian classical music and cannot wait to bear witness to the extremely creative and versatile, Rahul Sharma showcasing his extraordinary abilities on the Santoor, accompanied by his brilliant co-artists on the keyboard and Tabla. We urge all lovers of Indian classical music to be a part of this incredible musical experience and support talented artists, who are the hope of our rich cultural heritage and tradition,” she added.

Rahul Sharma is a connoisseur of Indian classical music and has continued his father’s efforts to promote it, as well as the Santoor across India and beyond. His undeniable talent led to him finding success early and is the first young musician and the only Indian musician to collaborate with the world-renowned pianist Richard Clayderman. He has performed at the WOMAD (World of Music, Arts and Dance) festival in the UK, as well as the Edinburgh Festival in Scotland.

Rahul Sharma also made his mark in the mainstream industry, becoming the first young Indian classical musician to provide his music for a commercial Bollywood feature film all by himself. He was also blessed with the opportunity, to collaborate with the one and only Lata Mangeshkar, making him one of the youngest music directors to work with her.

He is a versatile talent with a vast spectrum of musical interests that he has experimented with throughout his career including popular music, collaborations, sublime, new age music, high-energy trance, folk music, thematic music, psychedelic sounds, and film music. All these comfortably co-exist with his first love – Indian Classical Music.

His father Pandit Shivkumar Sharma went one step ahead and made Santoor indispensable in the world of Indian classical music. Today, Rahul is all set to continue that tradition and make the Santoor indispensable in the world of music across the globe.

Tickets for the event are priced at 50 Aed balcony, 100 Aed Silver, 150 Aed gold and 200 Aed platinum. The event is open to everyone, and tickets can be purchased online at 800TICKETS.
