Since ancient times, Damask roses have brought beauty to the desert and prosperity to the villagers who tend them. Cultivated on terraced valley farms for over a millennium, traditions and techniques are passed on year after year as each new generation takes its place as custodians of these fragrant crops. Harvest occurs between mid-March and May when the flowers are plucked and distilled into rose oil, an essential gift from Oman to the world.
Hosted by Anantara Al Jabal Al Akhdar Resort, the Rose Experience carries guests to a local village where rows of Damask roses sway in the warm breeze. After taking time to appreciate the splendour of the scene, transport is arranged to an enchanting location for a mouthwatering sunset picnic. Inspired by the season, roses infuse every dish on the menu from sumptuous rose petal salad to creamy rose soup, rose-marinated Atlantic cod fillet, and a sweet rose semifreddo dessert.

Meet the locals and see how roses from their garden are traditionally distilled in tarnished silver bowls and clay ovens. Back at the resort, the therapeutic magic of the bloom can be experienced first-hand through the signature Rose Rescue Ritual at Anantara Spa. This 90-minute treatment with included refreshments features a milk and rose petal foot cleansing, a hydration facial with rose and coconut oil, a scalp massage, and a soothing stress release massage.
